Premiere Pro CC 2017.1 Crashes When Opening Older ProjectsI was all excited this morning about the new updates to Adobe CC. They just released the Spring edition updates to CC, which includes Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2017.1.
I quickly upgraded my system and then proceeded to opening up an older project. Eagerly waiting for the project to open, it took a little while and then…instead of getting the new project opened, I got a “Adobe Premiere Pro Stopped Working” error pop up.
I thought that I perhaps needed to restart my computer, which you normally have to do after an app install on Windows. I did that. Reopened a previous project. Same error!
I did a quick search on the Adobe forums and guess what, I was not the only person experiencing this issue. Other’s have as well. But there is a quick fix for it. If you perform the following steps, you should be up and running quickly.
- Open up Premiere Pro CC 2017.1
- Create a new project.
- In the navigation menu, go to Window->Workspaces
- Make sure you uncheck “Import Workspaces from Projects”.
Now open your old project and it should come up without a problem. You will get the “This project was created in a previous version.” warning and then you’ll have to save it as a new version. But that’s typical of upgrades to Premiere Pro.
